This is a barely used set sold to one of our regular clients and he has asked us to sell this for him. It includes our Uilleann half set with blackwood keyed chanter and drones as well as the rosewood chanter you can use for practicing or it may be used with the set.
These have all be professionally set up by David Brewer of Santa Cruz, CA, a full time player and teacher of this instrument.
Included are his custom made reeds, a great value! And also the large case which allows the set to be stored without taking it apart.
Regulators may be added if you like. We get them in rarely but currently we have 1 set in stock.
The Blackwood Uilleann Chanter plays two octaves from Low to high D. It has 3 brass keys which provide additional C, G# and F notes.
Note: The uillean set contains some blackwood and some rosewood parts. The large stock where the drones attach to the bag as well as the sides of the bellows are rosewood due to the high cost and unavailability of blackwood in pieces this large. The parts that attach to the chanter are blackwood.
The bag and bellows are made of synthetic material to keep the pipes airtight. Leather would breathe and would have to be sealed periodically with bag seal. Great Highland pipes benefit from breathing due to the saliva that ends up in the bag and therefore do better with a leather bag to let this moisture out. Since the uilleanns are powered by a bellows we can avoid having to use a sealer by using the synthetic bag.
Includes The New Approach to Uilleann Piping Book and CD by Heather Clarke.
List price for this set would be would be $1150 without the case, the custom reeds, or professional set-up!
Some reviews from our customers:
Drones
Superb! High quality, excellent construction, and they play fantastic! In learning, you may find yourself with the leaver turned to switch them off, but, once you've mastered the fingerings and trills, you will absolutely want to have the drones turned on! Do you want these? Yes! My very highest recommendations!
